Baby Rabbit from Sleepy Mountain

York Wilson Paintings on the Poetry of Hagiwara Sakutaro

Baby rabbit from Sleepy Mountain,
Why are your ears so long?

Because, when you lived in your mummy’s tummy,
To make your body strong
She gave you long long leaves to eat.
That’s why your ears are long.

Baby rabbit from Sleep Mountain,
Why are your eyes so red?

Because, when you lived in your mummy’s tummy,
Your Mummy comforted
Her hungry bunny with red red berries.
That’s why your eyes are red.
