ZUI ZUI ZUKKOROBASHI

York Wilson Paintings on the Poetry of Hagiwara Sakutaro

Zui and zukkorobashi!
Sesame, beanpaste mixed like so.
If you’re the last, then out you go.
The mouse who lived in the straw-made rice-bag,
Nibbling rice, went chu, chu, chu.
Even when his father called him,
He went on eating chu, chu, chu.
Even when his mother called,
He wouldn’t come when she told him to.
Who’s the person who broke the tea-bowl
There by the well-side?  Who? Who? Who?
