The Story of Oil

Imperial Oil Building, 111 St. Clair Avenue West, Toronto

The Story of Oil

Permanently installed in the Imperial Oil Building in Toronto, this mural consists of two panels, each 32 feet long and 21 feet in height. The subject of this work, as its title suggests, is the story of oil, beginning with its formation in prehistory and ending with its subsequent discovery and exploitation for purposes of industry and recreation. York Wilson took three years to plan, research, and execute this important commission.

To best facilitate study of York Wilson's Story of Oil, this site contains Budge Crawley's informative documentary on the making of the mural, as well as an outstanding lecture tour by John Leroux.
