Rita Letendre is one of Canada's most successuful abstract
painters. Born in Drummondville, Quebec, Canada in 1928, Letendre moved with her parents
to Montreal in 1941. During the 1950's and early 1960's she participated in the Automatist
movement in Montreal. Much of Letendre's canvas work is characterised by long gestural
strips of colour. Letendre has allowed her work to evolve through various media, employing
brush, spatula, and airbrushing techniques to her canvasses, as well as working with
pastel and silkscreen. She has had more than 65 solo exhibitions. Her art work is in many public and private collections throughout North
America.
